Deferred.
- Visual Design of Left-Hand Menu. Chris showed mockups in Firefox and IE of his proposed changes to the left-hand navigation menu. There are minor visual glitches in both browsers, including spacing and shifting text. Chris will refine the CSS and then pass the proposed changes on to Janet and Annie for accessibility testing.
- Redesign
Discussion
Eva and Annie agreed that further exploration of Information Architecture needs for the library is needed as well as a greater understanding of the customization needs the library will have for the CMS. This will help the CMS team and the Library assess the best methodology for implementing a CMS instance. Eva supported the Library’s exploration of a phased protocol for redesign.
Annie will move forward discussions about a phased protocol for Library web redesign with upper administration.
The group brainstormed
quick steps we can take now to clean up the site. Current steps include:
- Create a list of old / outdated pages (Esther)
- Create a list of pages not modified in the last year or longer (Chris)
- Meet with Alison regarding Drupal's bibliographic module and interfacing with Primo (Chris)
- Consider gateways concept for audience navigation (group)
- Around the Table
Chris reported on the Summon webcasts. He mentioned that Summon looks good and appears to have good API functionality, but that it is generally not liked by faculty and grad students who conduct more comprehensive research.
Nancy announced that LAUW has invited Sonny Banerjee and Graham McCarthy from Ryerson to speak on topics of Ryerson's staff intranet and mobile applications. Their talk is scheduled for Thursday, November 11 at 11:10 am in DC 1568.
Annie
mentioned that the campus web redesign style guide and phased protocol documents will be available shortly. She also announced that she will be part of the team leading a "basic competencies bootcamp" on web skills for staff across campus who are part of the initial redesign launch.
