Minutes of the Meeting of March 9, 2011 2:00 - 3:30 pm, Dana Porter Library, 428

  1. Approval of previous minutes

    Approved as distributed.

  2. Business Arising from meeting of Feb. 9, 2011

    #1 (2) Business Arising - Blogs. Lists of blogs were reviewed and any blog untouched in the last 6 months was deleted. In time the blog server will be rebuilt but it was noted that there have not been any server hangs since the cleanup.
    #2(2) Business Arising - RACER. Chris posted a draft of a new RACER page which was then extensively discussed. It was agreed that Wish needed to be contacted for his input.
    Action: Chris will contact Wish and incorporate his feedback into the Login page.
    #3 (5) Subject Guides Search. Adrian will address the http 404 issue by the end of the month.
    #4 (6) User needs assessment has begun.

  3. Agenda Review
    Two items were proposed but time did not permit them to be addressed:
    -- Brainstorm a preparation process for Pascal
    -- Update on the User Needs Project

  4. Issues surrounding booking systems and web standards
    Adrian reported that the booking system was not standards compliant and noted that it might be time to look for alternatives. He will contact Alex and the Study Room group about this issue and determine a longer term plan.

  5. Waterloo Web Phasing Plan -- Outstanding items

    Esther listed several outstanding issues with the Web Phasing Plan. These systems need to be addressed:

      The group determined a priority for these items:

      E-Journal Titles (http://sfx.scholarsportal.info/waterloo/az) plus the GetIt page
      Study Room Booking (https://bookings.lib.uwaterloo.ca/sbs/day.php
      Where Is It? Library Floor Plans
      UW Space  - (http://uwspace.uwaterloo.ca/)
      LibWork (https://library.uwaterloo.ca/libwork/)

      Action: Chris and Adrian will address each of the items above in that order.

      The group detemined that the Search box is not needed in the header if the page itself has a search box in the body of the page. For example, Esther will remove the search box of the header in the LibGuide pages.

      Action: Esther will remove the search box from LibGuides
      Action: Esther will remove the search box from Ares
      Action: Charles will remove the search box from the UW TRELLIS server.

      Chris noted a need for accessibility training for himself and Adrian. Annie noted a starting point to address this is an update to one's job description noting the need for accessibility skills for the job.

    6. Feedback Form

      Esther noted several changes requested by the AODA working group to the website Feedback form:
      1. add Accessibility as another option on the form, and indeed make it the first one.
      2. add a paragrph on response time.
      3. fix accessibility errors (primarily a result of a lack of form labels)

      Action: Adrian to update the form for items 2 and 3. Chris will attend to any ColdFusion changes required.

    7. Around the Table
      Adrian reported that Cognos 7 public-facing web pages are not standards complient and that in the future alternatives may need to be considered.
