- Introduction of Pascal Calarco to the Web Operational management Committee
Pascal was welcomed to the group.
He was given a brief history of the committee, some of the tasks which we perform
and challenges faced.
Pascal gave a brief description of his experiences and projects worked on that might be useful in our context.
- Update on the work of the Web Advisory Committee
Chris has distributed minutes of the most recent meeting. Some of the pilot projects are going live this fall and some academic department level projects should soon be initiated. The organizers have been collecting information on what went well and what went not-so-well.
- Discipline Area & LibGuides
Esther reported that Chris has set up a redirect from the old subject guides area to the new LibGuides. There are many .bak and "notes" files to be cleaned up.
Action Esther, Chris & Charles will investigate methods to clean this up.
Nancy noted that backups of LibGuides are available.
Action Esther will ask Kathy S. to send a reminder to
LibGuides users suggesting they back up their guides.
- Around the Table
- Chris has finished an 8-week course on web accessibility; he notes
a. it's a job for a specialist.
b. it's difficult to maintain those skills.
He pointed to Liam Morland of IST as a campus resource person for web accessibility.
Chris noted that a poster near the elevators in Porter is an excellent candidate for QR codes.
- Nancy will be attending a UT iSchool course on Social Media Strategies.
- Charles will be getting together with systems people from UG and WLU to create a TOMCAT version of WebVoyage which they hope to be stable.
