The Web Operational Management Group will consider these criteria/guiding principles when making decisions or recommendations on the use of features in Dreamweaver and other software. Staff members may benefit from consulting these when making their individual decisions.
It is recognized that the content (or the message) is the most important, among all things to be considered. One should use features that are suitable for the presentation of such content. Some considerations are: usefulness, users' reception to content or message, transferability or sharing of responsibility in maintenance. The following criteria or guiding principles can be used to determine if the use of a feature in Dreamweaver or other software should be encouraged or discouraged.
For example, if a web page includes javascript, make sure the conditions of all expected browsers are satisfied; it may be useful to include an alternative text page in some cases. (Dreamweaver is helpful in adjusting the javascript for all browsers.)
Do not use software or any function which will make it hard to transfer maintenance responsibility.
For example, use a server side "include" statement instead of a "library" file in Dreamweaver.
For example, image files on web pages should include "alt" statements in the "img" code.
For example, use the "check-out" feature in Dreamweaver.
For example, the possible use of HTML Transitional 4.01 in Dreamweaver.
