How long will the survey take to complete?

What is the goal of the survey?

We hope to gain a high-level snapshot of our users' website needs, wants, and impressions.

Online usability testing

How long will the online usability tests take to complete?

5-10 minutes per test.

How many online usability tests are there?

Two.

Do I get an entry for each test?

Yes. 

What types of tests are these and what do they measure?

The usability tests are task-based and focus on click-preference and site navigation. They will help us to discover usability issues and to collect feedback about website navigation, page content, website features, and quick links.

Who is administering the online usability tests?

Library staff.

Focus groups

How long are the focus groups?

30 minutes.

Who is facilitating the focus groups?

Library staff. There will be two moderators present and one scribe.

Will the focus group meetings be recorded?

No.

How many people will participate in a focus group?

There will be approximately 5-7 participants per focus group.

In-person usability testing

How long will the in-person usability test take?

15-30 minutes.

Who is facilitating the in-person usability testing?

Library staff. There will be one moderator present and one scribe.

Will the usability testing be recorded?

No.

Why is the Library conducting the survey, usability testing, etc.?

The Library is conducting these assessment activities to discover and assess our users' needs, ideas, attitudes, wants, and preferences when it comes to our website.

How will my feedback be used?

Your feedback will help us to develop user requirements for moving forward in our website redesign. It will define outcomes for the project and inform the future information architecture of our website.

How will my privacy be maintained?

The feedback you provide online and in-person will be kept completely confidential.

Although you will be required to provide your email address to be eligible to win the iPad or iPod touch, this information is collected separately and will not to be linked to the feedback you provide.

Why should I participate?

This is your chance to have a say in the Library's future website. Our website exists for you and we'd like to know what you would like to see changed, added, or removed. It's your opportunity to dream big and tell us what your ideal Library website would look, feel, and work like.

What are the prizes?

First prize: iPad

Second prize: iPod touch

What are my chances of winning the iPad or iPod touch?

Your chances of winning depend on the number of entries we receive and the number of assessment activities that you participate in.

When is the draw?

The draw for the iPad and iPod touch will take place in the first week of May.

How can I increase my chances of winning?

Participate in additional assessment activities. You will receive one entry for every assessement activity you complete:

  • survey (one entry)
  • online usability testing (two tests = two entries)
  • focus group (one entry)
  • in-person usability testing (one entry)
