Before and after --* New show! *- -,
A quick tour showing the same locations before and after the renovations. Most of the before pictures were taken in early May, the 'afters' in mid November, just after the official opening. There is often little resemblance between the two pictures!
Why we were closed,
A quick illustration of some of the things that went on during the summer, including what staff worked around retrieving books and journal articles.
Old Information Desk area,
Looking at the old Information Desk from just inside the old entrance. With more funding this will become the Davis Library FlexLab.
Old Circulation Desk,
Looking at the old Circulation Desk from near the old Information Desk. This view ends up being from inside the FlexLab.
Old Exit area,
Taken from the old exit area looking back into the library. On the right are the service desks. In the distance is study space.
Old Abstracts & Indexes 1,
Taken from behind the old Circulation Desk, looking towards where the abstracts & indexes were. This becomes the new service area with the Reference Desk at the front.
Old Abstracts & Indexes 2,
Taken from behind the elevator, looking towards the concrete shear wall where the service desks will be, in this case, the Circulation Desk.
From the back of the library,
Looking up the aisle, beside the carrels (along the QA, QB, QC, etc books) towards the library exit. This area becomes a group study area with laptop connections.
Mobile shelving,
Government Publications and other lesser-used material have moved to mobile shelving at the foot of the stairs (near the current periodicals).
View of the new Circulation area,
View from the RBC Information Commons area behind the elevator.
View of the new Information Desk area,
View from near the old library exit.
Study area, east side,
Looking from front to back of the library. The front area becomes the RBC Information Commons
The new RBC Information Commons area,
Converting from carrels to information commons.
The old public terminals area,
The public terminals have been moved and the reference collection is now in the northwwest corner of the library.
