Kitchener-Waterloo O.C.D. Support Group
The support group is open to people who suffer from Obsessive Compulsive
Disorder (O.C.D.) and to their family and friends. It is an informal
non-professional gathering where we can share information and give care
and support to those whose lives are affected by O.C.D. We meet the 2nd
Monday of every month, September through June, at the
Waterloo
Adult Recreation Centre, 185 King Street South, Waterloo, Ontario.
For 2000/2001 the Group meets on: November 13, December 11 (our Christmas
Social), January 8, February 12, March 12, April 9, May 14, and June 11.

What is O.C.D.?
O.C.D. is a disorder characterized by persistent,
intrusive, useless thoughts (obsessions), accompanied by the urge to
perform repetitive and bizarre-seeming acts (compulsions). Scientists
have discovered a strong link between O.C.D. and abnormal levels of the
brain chemical, serotonin.
Common obsessions are:
- contamination
- concerns about:
- cleanliness
- neatness
- order
- fear of harm to self or others
- pathological doubt
Common compulsions are:
- washing
- checking
- cleaning
- avoiding
- saving/hoarding
- asking for resassurance

an interest in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder or related neurobiological
